Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge Part 4
Food, Drinks and Snacks at Batuu
I can count with one hand the amount of times we have seen people eating or drinking during a Star Wars movie. Cantina scenes, Aunt Beru’s Blue Milk and Rey’s insta bread, that’s about it. I’m sure the Imagineers had a daunting and fun task when coming up with the menu for the land. I think they have created an interesting, different and well varied menu that should satisfy the Star Wars fan and average Disney park goer.
These are the establishments that we will be able to visit inside Batuu when in need of food and/or drinks:
Oga’s Cantina: It wouldn’t be a Star Wars place without a Cantina, from the infamous Mos Eisley to Maz Kanata’s Palace, Star Wars has always provided a place for the locals to go and wet their whistle if you will.
Visitors come to Oga’s to unwind, conduct shady business, and maybe even encounter a friend…or a foe. Run by an intriguing alien proprietor, Oga Garra, the cantina adheres to a strict code of conduct that tries to keep its unruly patrons in check. But with a history of being a smugglers’ safe haven and a popular stopping point for those seeking to avoid the authorities, you can bet that the cantina has a story or two to tell.
Oga’s Cantina is the kind of establishment that attracts some of the most interesting and disreputable characters in the galaxy. And you never know when a stormtrooper or a familiar face will show up. Patrons of the cantina come from across the galaxy to sample the famous concoctions created with exotic ingredients using “otherworldly” methods, served in unique vessels. With choices for kids and libations for adults, the cantina will make for a great stop!
Musical entertainment is provided courtesy of RX-24, the former StarSpeeder 3000 pilot droid we first met in Star Tours, who has re-envisioned himself as the cantina’s DJ. As quirky and talkative as ever, he’s still trying to do his best on the job.
Get ready to listen to some unique music, taste the best drinks in the galaxy, and surround yourself with a colorful cast of characters. There are a variety of alcoholic and non alcoholic choices here as well as small bites
Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo: a multi-purpose transport shuttle docked atop a large hangar for traveling food shuttles. That’s where Chef Strono “Cookie” Tuggs has converted his modified Sienar-Chall Utilipede-Transport into a popular mobile kitchen and restaurant. His travels across the galaxy allow him to fill his pantry with exotic ingredients, and he’s proud to present Tuggs’ Grub, a “traveling diner for diners traveling,” inspired by dishes he created during his time working for Maz Kanata on Takodana.
“The flavors in Galaxy’s Edge and Docking Bay 7 are going to be very bold, a lot of spice forward. Star Wars fans will be able to dine inside special effects-laden shipping containers that double as seating areas. Barrels and crates will serve as chairs.
The heavily-propped cargo containers will have different themes. Each will be run by a Black Spire vendor. There will be a fishmonger, a fruit vendor and an alien distillery. The fishmonger pod also has a carbonite freezing machine to preserve the catch of the day.
The Milk Stand: Of course there’s Blue Milk and not only that but also Green Milk. Both are actually plant based so great for the non dairy folks, this is a walk up stand located in the Outpost area
Kat Saka’s Kettle: Looking for more snacks? there’s a convenient kettle cart.
Kat Saka lives outside the city walls of Black Spire on a nearby farming homestead. That’s where the Saka family has been growing the grain that they heat into a fluffy, flavored treat to peddle in the marketplace alley. They will have sweet, salty and spicy popcorn mix.
Ronto Roasters: Ronto Roasters’ large podracing engine will be firing up a barbecue pit for mouth-watering sandwiches. When customers line up to order, they will encounter a former smelter droid, carefully turning the spit of meats (and complaining about his job). Sausages will be roasted on a rotisserie like spit along with hand torn turkey jerky that looks like leather.
All of the opening day food locations will be quick services, there are rumors of a table service coming in the future. Hopefully people eat their meals and move on or Disney implements a way to “shoo” away people who are not eating. It will be interesting to see how they will deal with this issue.
Next blog post on this series will talk about the merchandise at Batuu..May The Force Be With You.
