BREAKING: Shrek 4D at Universal Orlando to Permanently Close, Mummy To Experience Technical Closing
It was just confirmed by Universal Orlando’s own memo that changes to some beloved attractions are on the brink for Universal Studios.
The memo dated October 6th, states:
“As you may have already heard, Revenge of the Mummy will be experience a maintenance closure beginning in January and will remain closed through the summer 2022.”
The memo goes on to talk about how popular the attraction is with guests and assures current team members for this attraction that they will be looking at dispersing them to other attractions and rides within the parks.
Then it goes on to talk about one of the more controversial (but well loved) attractions, Shrek 4D. The memo states: “Additionally, we have made the difficult decision to permanently close Shrek 4D in January 2022…Thank you to all who have been a part of serving the nearly 75 MILLION guests over the last 18 years.”
It’s hard to believe that Shrek 4D has been around for 18 years, but none the less, it sure knew how to pack a crowd. This unique attraction combined a thrilling storyline with your favorite Shrek characters as they chased down Lord Farquad in his villainous schemes. The attraction combined the 3D motion picture with seats that would move, shake, and tilt to correspond with certain key points in the movie and seemed to pave the way for similar attractions that expanded on that idea like Despicable Me: Minion Mayhem and Race Around New York with Jimmy Fallon.
While the news comes as a blow, we’re certain that guests that are diehard fans of these rides will continue their patronage to show them the love they deserve before their extended technical and permanent closures respectively.
Streaming The Magic will be certain to keep you updated as we come to know more. You can view the memo in full below:
