Walt Disney World Shares Plans for Affordable Housing Development
Earlier in 2022, Walt Disney World announced plans to develop affordable housing for Central Florida residents. At the time no details, such as location, were made available.
However, today Disney has released more information about what we can expect from this new housing initiative! On nearly 80 acres of land, the location is “west of State Route 429, just a few miles away from the Magic Kingdom, near schools and shopping, including Flamingo Crossings Town Center”. In all, Disney plans to offer more than 1300 units within this development.
The Michaels Organization will not only built the site, but will also own and operate the property.
Applicants interested in living within the community will need to submit an application, and submit income verification. Residency will only be open to those who qualify within a certain income range, which is not currently stated.
As shared by DisneyParks, “attainable housing is one of the many ways Disney engages with local leaders to help the community find lasting solutions” to the lack of affordable housing available for local residents.
More details on this affordable housing initiative as we get it.
