Happening Now: Cast Members Protesting Unfair Wages Near Walt Disney World

Unionized workers are making their voices heard in Kissimmee today, just outside Walt Disney World property. Chanting “Disney workers need a raise”, Cast Members are holding signs describing their struggles to make ends meet on Disney wages. As reported by Katie Rice (@katievrice) of the Orlando Sentinel, we are provided with video and photos of the scene in Kissimmee:

Cast Members are sharing their difficulties in affording healthcare, paying for everyday baby care items, and simply paying rent.

Katie Rice shares that “Disney proposed to raise starting pay by $1/hour per year to reach $20”. Cast Members believe that they need more urgent help now, and that the offer isn’t going to provide enough immediate relief for their wallets.
