Former Disney CEO Throws Shade at Chapek
In recent days, we have seen the well wishes for Bob Iger pour in as he took back the role of CEO from Bob Chapek. One of the first people to express their approval in the change of power from first mention was former Disney CEO Michael Eisner.
Eisner, who was CEO of The Walt Disney Company from September 1984 to September 2005, was known for some pretty amazing accomplishments. Considered by many to have been in the drivers seat during a period of huge success at Disney, we can thank him for such blockbuster films as ‘The Little Mermaid’, ‘Beauty and the Beast’, ‘Aladdin’, and ‘The Lion King’. In addition to film success, he was in charge during great Park expansion, such as the opening of Disney’s Animal Kingdom, Disney’s California Adventure Park, and others overseas. These are just some of the many great contributions that occurred on Eisner’s watch.
When news broke that Chapek was out as CEO, Eisner was quick to tweet out his congratulations to Iger on his return to the position:
At the time, many perceived this as a simple congratulations between CEOs. After all, not many people know what it is like to head such a massive company.
Today however, the tone to Eisner’s tweet regarding the state of The Walt Disney Company, spoke volumes:
While no names are mentioned directly, the timing of this message says a lot, without saying much at all. The Walt Disney Company certainly experienced a number of missteps under Chapek, so undoubtedly this is a direct hit at Chapek.
Moving forward into hopefully what becomes a better season for The Walt Disney Company, Eisner shared the words of Walt Disney directly. “Everybody falls down. Getting back up is how you learn to walk”.
