Disney World Construction Update 1/16/16
Hello everyone, I’m planning on bringing you a construction update on a weekly basis on the several projects that Disney has for the future of the resort. In this one I went to Disney’s Animal Kingdom, Epcot and Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
First up is Animal Kingdom, Pandora-The World of Avatar continues it’s vertical ascent, this project is expected to be concluded any time in 2017 when visitors can become immersed in the world of Avatar.
Right next door to Pizzafari, Tiffins, a signature restaurant, is also coming along. This restaurant is expected to open some time this year.
On the other side of the park construction on the new night show, Rivers of Light, continues at a fast pace, with the rumored opening on April 22nd (Earth Day and AK anniversary) a large crew is working to finish this project day and night.
And now for a quick trip to Epcot. The only visible project here is the newly themed Norway.
Frozen Ever After will be the name of the attraction and the entire pavilion is getting an Arendelle look. Complete with an additional building dedicated for meeting both Princess Anna and Queen Elsa. This project is rumored to open some time before June.
And lastly, a look at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. With the certainty of two new lands, Toy Story Land and Star Wars Land, I expected construction walls to be more numerous, alas it wasn’t so. I guess I’m a bit impatient being a huge Star Wars fan.
First off the entire area between ABC Sound Studio (Old Sounds Dangerous building) and the restrooms is blocked off by walls, rumors say this will be a meet and greet location, but we don’t know for which character(s).
Pizza Planet as we know it has it’s days numbered. It’s closing for a long refurbishment January 19th, expected to open late November with the same food offerings but more seating.
Osborne Lights removal continues, with Streets of America looking almost back to it’s non-Christmas normal self.
And now for the last wall of the post. This one is blocking the area where Phineas, Ferb, Lightning McQueen and Mater used to meet. It also blocks the Premiere Theater. Maybe first hints on where Star Wars Land will be?
I will be visiting February 8-13. Is a Hollywood Studios visit worth my time due to the numerous construction projects?
I’m actually writing my next post on this very point. But to answer your question here, and completely a personal choice, I think it’s worth it. In February there won’t be any more walls up so you still have a choice of a lot of shows , attractions and entertainment. Stay tuned for the new, more detail post on this subject.
