D23 Fan Expo: Walt Disney Studios Panel

Walt Disney Studios is all encompassing now, not only for Disney films but also LucasFilm, Marvel and Pixar. Here is the news we gathered from this panel:

Star Wars Rise of Skywalker: The cast joined JJ Abrams on stage with new cast members Naomi Ackie and Kerri Russell. Russell is portraying Zorri Bliss, friend of Poe Dameron. We got a sneak peek of her character.

Marvel Studios had a couple of announcements as well:

Black Panther II: Kevin Feige announced release date for the anticipated sequel for May 6th, 2022

The Eternals cast was on hand,  Angelina Jolie, Richard Madden, Gemma Chan and  Salma Hayek.

Kit Harrington will play Dare Whitman and Barry Keoghan will portray Druig.

Disney Studios released the trailer for The Jungle Cruise for expo goers only. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson arrived on a jungle cruise boat and confirms that he does utter the phrase “backside of water” in the film. He was joined on stage by co-star Emily Blunt. Jungle Cruise comes out July 24th, 2020.

Angeline Jolie came back on to the stage to talk about Maleficent Mistress of Evil and says that in this movie they explore the following themes: Your differences make you stronger and How you love and what you stand for is what makes you family, not blood.

Expo goers were treated with new footage from Mulan, the majority report that it looks visually stunning and impressive.

Cruella DeVil’s Emma Stone was in hand to talk about the upcoming movie. Here’s a first look of Emma Stone as Cruella, Paul Walter Hauser and Joel Fry portraying Jasper and Horace.

Next up was Soul. This movie uses jazz music to portray a journey from the streets of New York City to the cosmic realms, discovering the answers to life’s most important questions. . The cast includes Jamie Fox, Tina Fey and Daveed Diggs.

Onward stars Tom Holland and Chris Pratt as brother, someone from the audience yelled “We love Spiderman!”he replied “Listen, it’s been a crazy week, but I want you to know, I am grateful from the bottom of my heart, and I love you 3000.” to thunderous applause after the controversial Sony/Disney dispute. The audience was treated o 8 minutes of the film. We have a look at the trailer here.

Frozen II explores the past. They know they tend to kill off the parents but the parents are coming back FOR A SCENE. FLASHBACK. Rachel Wood is voicing the new character Queen Iduna, Anna and Elsa’s mom. and Sterling K Brown plays Lt Matias. Frozen 2 will complete the story. The new song that is destined to get stuck in our heads is “Into the Unkown” sung by Idina Menzel.

Disney Animation announced Raya and the Last Dragon, opening Thanksgiving of this year, otherworldly creatures and fantastical places in an epic fantasy adventure inspired by cultures and scenery of Southeast Asia. Set in Kumundura made up of 5 distinct clans inspired by Laos, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam. The movie stars Cassie Steele as Raya and Awkwafina as Sisu
