Big Changes Coming To Disney Genie+ System

Since it was introduced in 2021, Guests at Disney Parks have had a love-hate relationship with Disney Genie+. It replaced FastPass at Disney Parks, which was free for Guests to use, with an overly complicated pay-to-play system that confused Guests and required additional planning in order to use effectively. In addition to the high cost of paying for Disney Genie+, Guests can additionally pay for Individual Lighting Lanes to the most popular attractions. With confusion at an all time high and costs skyrocketing at the Parks, needless to say, Disney Genie+ is a system that hasn’t been well received by Guests.

Today we’re learning that Disney is making a change to the Disney Genie+ system, a change that makes it just a bit easier for Guests to navigate. Prior to now, when a Guest booked a Lightning Lane reservation, modifications were not possible in the app. Park Guests had to cancel their Lightning Lane in order to change it, which risked losing the new reservation time altogether while the switch is being made. The system is just not as user friendly as it could be. Now reporter Scott Gustin shared this update to the program via his Twitter:

We are so excited about this news! Now, Guests are able to modify their Lightning Lane selections in the app, instead of canceling and rebooking. Gustin shared that we can expect the change to happen within the next week or so with an app update (for both iOS and Android). In addition, Guests will be able to modify the number of Guests in their party in the app.

A few more “fine print” details with this change, as shared by Gustin on his Twitter:

How to find the Modification Option on Genie+ Lightning Lane
Where and how changes can be made

It is important to note, these changes are not applicable to Individual Lightning Lane; once they are booked, they are final, and not eligible for this new modification update.

This is a huge step forward for a program that has not been very user friendly. Modifications like this are definitely something we hope to see more of, as new changes to the Disney Parks are made under Bob Iger’s leadership.

As we are still learning about this new change to the Disney Genie+ system, stay tuned to Streaming the Magic for the latest information!
